The TUM School of Medicine and Health and the LMU Faculty of Medicine jointly offer the pre-clinical programme. The pre-clinical programme is taught at the LMU and the LMU's study regulations apply (see also: Hochschulstart).
After students have completed the first part of their medical examination, the so-called "Physikum", they continue their studies in the clinical part of the programme at either LMU or TUM.
Students are allocated to the two universities according to their capacities (40:60% TUM/LMU) and based on the results of the Physikum.
Students who have completed their pre-clinical phase at a university outside Munich and would like to complete the clinical phase at TUM can apply online directly to TUM (NOT via the TUM School of Medicine and Health). However, the chances for external applicants are minimal, as students of the joint preclinical programme at LMU and TUM are given priority and capacities are already fully utilized.
Important notes for the admission!
- The Student Office TUM School of Medicine and Health is not responsible for admission to the study of human medicine. You can only apply for a place to study human medicine for the first semester in Munich via Hochschulstart in Munich. At the TUM human medicine can only be studied in the clinical study phase.
- The Admissions Office of the Technical University of Munich is exclusively responsible for admission to a higher semester (from the 5th semester/clinical study phase).
- The study of human medicine at LMU and TUM is conducted exclusively in German. This requires at least language level C2!
- If you have already studied medicine abroad and would like to have (previous) achievements and semesters recognized, please contact the State Examination Office for Medicine and Pharmacy: Government of Upper Bavaria, Maximilianstr. 39, 80539 Munich.
