Diversity and inclusion at the TUM School of Medicine and Health – also in the range of courses offered
The TUM School of Medicine and Health stands for a culture of openness, diversity, and democracy. Inclusion and equal participation shape studying, teaching, research, and everyday interaction.
Diversity management in the area of talent management and diversity actively shapes the school's gender and diversity strategy. Under the leadership of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer, Vice Dean for Talent Management & Diversity, targeted measures are implemented to promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
There is a particular focus on public relations and cooperation with inclusive partner organizations – such as Offene Behindertenarbeit – evangelisch in der Region München (OBA), with which there has been a long-standing and successful collaboration.
A collaboration with OBA
In the module “Special Features of Human Developmental Stages,” inclusion is not only taught, but also brought to life.
Through close collaboration with Offene Behindertenarbeit (OBA), students encounter people with different physical, cognitive, and social abilities—for example, through internships in inclusive sports groups or by helping to design training sessions themselves.
The focus is on learning through real encounters. The experiences are described as professionally enriching, emotionally moving, and personally formative. The openness, humor, and athletic commitment of the participants leave a lasting impression.
The module combines scientific principles with practical application and strengthens key competencies such as empathy, reflective thinking, and appreciative communication. It promotes new perspectives on health, exercise, and diversity—and inspires many students to continue working with the OBA beyond the module.
