Erasmus+ / Swiss-European Mobility Program
The online info session has taken place on November 12, 2025.
The slides can be downloaded here. The presentation was recorded and can be found in this Moodle course.
If you are planning to apply for an Erasmus stay in the 2026/27 academic year, you are welcome to make an appointment for a consultation (before Christmas 2025). Please read the information on this website first and listen to the presentation, if you have not already done so on November 12.
Appointments can be booked here. Please note that appointments on Wednesdays take place via Zoom.
Further information can also be found in this brochure (about Erasmus) and on the TUM G&A webpages.
- Students must have completed their first year of study and be enrolled at TUM.
- A stay is only possible at universities that have an Erasmus or SEMP cooperation agreement with the TUM School of Medicine and Health in the relevant subject areas. (see Partner universities)
- Students who did not receive a TUMexchange spot
- Knowledge of the language of instruction and ideally also the local language.
- Have earned at least 20 ECTS credits per semester
- Information about our partner universities, their semester dates, language of instruction, course offerings, and available spots can be found here.
- You can select up to four universities in your application. We strongly recommend doing so, as your first choice is not guaranteed due to limited spots.
- Experience reports from former outgoing students can be found in the TUM G&A database.
- Please select the three MH codes corresponding to Sport and Health Sciences under “Subject Area.”
- Erasmus students receive a monthly scholarship of approx. €250, depending on the country.
- This can be combined with Auslands-BAföG. Whether it can be combined with other scholarships must be checked individually.
- Certain students (e.g. first-generation students, students traveling with children, students with physical or psychological impairments) may receive an additional €250 monthly top-up for the entire funded period.
For all questions regarding the Erasmus+ scholarship, the TUM G&A Office is your main contact. Visit the relevant website or contact the responsible staff directly.
- The host university is responsible for scholarships under the SEMP program. You can obtain information about this directly from the host university. General information about SEMP can be found here.
- The application period for Erasmus+ and for SEMP for the academic year 2026/2027 begins on December 1, 2025 and ends on January 13, 2026 at 12:00 noon.
- Exchange places are allocated for the entire academic year, so the deadline applies to both winter and summer semester stays.
- You must register on the MoveON application portal. Starting December 1, the new application form Application for Erasmus+ SMS, Switzerland – SEMP Studies, Double Degree and Departmental Program 2026/27 will be available.
- Please register using your TUM email address, which must include your first and last name (e.g., max.muster@tum.de).
- Complete your application early, as technical issues may occur during peak times.
- Keep your login credentials safe – you will need them later to submit further documents (e.g. regarding the Erasmus scholarship).
The following documents must be uploaded online:
1) Motivation Letter
- Explain why you chose these universities, how your ranking was determined, why you are the best candidate, etc.
- Refer to all your preferred partner universities in your letter.
- Your motivation will be more authentic and your chances higher if you write it yourself without AI assistance.
2) CV
- Include all relevant information about your personal, academic, and professional background (e.g., hobbies, language skills, internships, volunteer work, etc.).
3) Language Certificates
- You must demonstrate sufficient language skills (at least B1) in the language of instruction at the host university. The more advanced your skills, the better.
- Accepted certificates include those from the TUM Language Center, DAAD, high school diplomas, or other recognized tests (e.g., TOEFL, Cambridge, IELTS, DELF, DALF, TELC, DELE, CELU, etc.).
- You must also complete at least a basic course in the local language before your stay.
4) Academic Transcripts
- Upload your TUMonline grade report or Transcript of Records.
- If you have already completed a degree, include that transcript as well.
5) Preliminary Study Plans
- For all desired stays. A template is available here.
- Refer to the course offerings from previous semesters at the partner universities.
You should plan to take at least 15–20 ECTS credits at the host university. 60% of the ECTS and courses must be completed at the nominated School.
To receive the Erasmus scholarship, you must successfully complete at least 10 ECTS.
Only complete applications will be considered!
Selection is based on:
- Academic and personal motivation
- Study plans abroad
- Language skills
- Academic progress (grades, number of credits, integration into TUM studies)
- Engagement and practical experience (e.g., participation in the Peer Program)
- Application documents (completeness, content, format)
Note: While grades are considered, they are not the sole deciding factor. However, it is important that at least 20 ECTS credits have been earned per past semester, as otherwise your academic progress could be at risk.
- Selection will be completed by mid to late February. You will be informed of the outcome via email.
- Once you accept your spot, we will notify the TUM G&A and your future host university (= nomination).
- TUM G&A will then provide you with further information, including details about the Erasmus scholarship.
- You must also apply independently to the host university within their respective deadlines. Deadlines can be found here.
- The host university will usually contact you directly. If you do not receive an email before the deadline, please contact: international.sh.sto(at)mh.tum.de
- You will also need to complete all administrative steps for your Erasmus scholarship (Grant Agreement, Online Learning Agreement, etc.) and for your relocation (housing, insurance, bank, residence status, etc.).
- Recognition of academic achievements abroad is a key part of the Erasmus program. Whether recognition is possible is determined before your stay in the Online Learning Agreement.
- The Learning Agreement (LA) lists the courses you plan to take at the host university and how they can be credited at TUM (or not).
- It must be submitted for your Erasmus scholarship and signed by you, the responsible person at TUM, and the responsible person at the host university. It is usually completed online at: https://learning-agreement.eu/
- Before the Online Learning Agreement can be signed by TUM, you must first clarify recognition possibilities through an Equivalency Agreement.
- Please read the explanations on the website regarding equivalency and recognition.
